Yama Dance Company

About

Yama is a community dance company based in Bath. It was set up in 2015 for those over 60 who had danced, or were new to dance, to come together to devise original work, create new social connections, and share work with wider dance communities through performances and workshops.

Since its inception Yama has performed and shared work across the south west and further afield, including Elixir Festival, Sadler’s Wells, Bristol Harbour Festival, Testing Ground, Circomedia Bristol, Full Bloom Festival at Trinity Centre, Bristol, HOST at DanceEast in Ipswich and Bath Festival.

Yama regularly brings dance performances out to site specific spaces, to engage audiences in the community and to demonstrate active and creative ageing. From company workshops to a weekly dance class open to the public, Yama enables more people to fulfill their potential as they deal with the challenges of ageing. Yama is a creative and supportive company of individuals, who thrive on making and performing unique and high-quality work.

Yama is one of the most inspirational things I’ve ever been a part of. Who’d have thought that at the age of 70 I’d be working with choreographers, dancing on a stage, and encouraging other people, both young and old, to express themselves through movement and have the time of their lives!
